This calm and gentle gorilla was given the name Kanepo in honour of three doctors - Kalpers, Annette and Popol - who worked for the IGCP. The name is an amalgam of three syllables taken from the names of the three doctors.

In 1992, when she was little, she got her wrist caught in a snare. Drs Kalpers and Macfie came to her rescue.
Dunia.
Until 1998 she was in the Rugabo family - but then left to join Mapuwa.
For a long time we thought SHE was a HE, that is until she gave birth to Bikenge in March 2001!
